Second child on the way: how to make space at home without moving
With the second child the house suddenly feels too small. Usually it is not too small but badly organised: the things of two children lie everywhere because they have no place. This is what we see with families who do not want to move, in the order that pays off most.
- Four cabinets solve it: children's room, living room, hallway and storage
- Together 12,000 to 20,000 euros, including installation and VAT
- Measure around week 28 to 30, installed before week 34
1. The children's room: one wardrobe, two children
A wardrobe of 2.5 to 3 metres to the ceiling, in two halves. Drawers at the bottom the children can open themselves, hanging space that moves up later. Anchored, handleless, with rounded edges. This is the cabinet that brings the most calm.
2. The living room: toys below, you above
A wall unit with deep drawers at child height and open shelves above. At seven o'clock the living room is yours again. This is the cabinet visitors comment on.
3. The hallway: buggy, coats, boots
An open bay for the buggy, hooks at 90 centimetres, a seat with a drawer. And the triangle under the stairs becomes storage. This is the cabinet that saves ten minutes every morning.
4. The storage or utility room
Ceiling-height cabinets for bikes, pram, washing machine and supplies. Melamine on adjustable feet, resistant to moisture. This is the cabinet that makes the house bigger without moving a wall.
When to have it installed
Count back from the due date. Measure around week 28 to 30, then everything is in before week 34 and you have room to spare if it comes early. In a new-build home: measure on handover day, install before the move.
What it costs together
The four cabinets above usually come to between 12,000 and 20,000 euros together, including installation and VAT. That is roughly two percent of a 600,000-euro home, and it is the cheapest way to gain an extra room. One cabinet at a time works too; the children's room first.
Your price estimate in one minute
Four choices, an instant range. Then we call you to plan a measuring visit, if you want us to.
Give us a call. Within five minutes you know what your cabinet costs.
The estimate above is a range, because we have not seen your wall yet. On the phone we ask three questions and then you get a price you can count on. No sales talk, no emails back and forth.
- A price within five minutes instead of a range
- Planning benefit of up to 250 euros if you are flexible on the installation day
- A measuring appointment straight away, usually within three working days
Available on weekdays from 8:00 to 20:00 and Saturdays until 17:00.
That planning benefit is not a sales trick. If we are already working in your neighbourhood that week, it saves us travel time and half a day of setting up. We pass that saving on, up to 250 euros. Tell us on the phone that you are flexible with the date and we will see what fits the schedule.
Frequently asked questions
Can we take the cabinets if we do move later?
The cabinets yes, the filler strips are made for this house. In practice almost everyone leaves them: a well-organised house sells better.
We live in a new-build home that still has to be handed over, is that possible?
Yes. We measure on handover day and install in the weeks after, before you move. That is the fastest route there is.
Does everything have to be done at once?
No. Most families start with the children's room and do the living room six months later. The finishes stay in stock, so everything keeps matching.
