Alcove cabinets, beside the chimney breast or in the conservatory
The alcove beside the chimney breast is the most common piece of lost space in a Hague house. Usually between 90 and 140 centimetres wide and up to a three-metre ceiling. A made-to-measure cabinet fills that alcove from floor to ceiling, with doors below and open shelves or closed cabinets above.

Because an alcove has three walls, measuring is the most important work here. We measure at three heights, because the walls never run parallel. The cabinet gets filler strips on both sides and against the ceiling, in the same finish, so the piece looks built in.
Two alcoves on either side of the chimney breast we prefer to make as one design, with the same lines and the same height of the upper cabinets. The ceiling ornament stays free; the cabinet stops against the moulding.

Frequently asked questions
The alcove is not square, is that a problem?
That is the rule, not the exception. The cabinet has clearance and the filler strips are marked on the wall and cut on site.
Does the ceiling ornament stay visible?
Yes. We stop against the moulding or leave a strip free, exactly as you want. We decide that when measuring.
Can a desk go into the alcove?
Yes, a pull-out or fixed desktop with the cabinet around it is a popular version for a workplace in the living room.
